Client Issues
Our clients present legal issues in the areas of Criminal law, Family law, an assortment of Civil law (landlord/tenancy, welfare benefits, disability benefits, wrongful dismissal, etc) and Immigration. Clients will frequently request a variation in Family Maintenance orders. They may also seek counsel on a first time charge under the Criminal Code of Canada, which is not covered by legal aid.
The Salvation Army staff instructs clients that the lawyer is only acting on their behalf during the consultation at our legal clinic. The lawyer will not become their lawyer of record, and will generally not act on their behalf in court.
Many clients come to our clinics needing documents prepared. In Vancouver, we have a paralegal on staff that is able to assist some clients in the preparation of documents for Family Law matters.
